Constructed in 1850 and known as The John Tucker Property, this grand Savannah property brings history, beauty, and comfort to the forefront of your stay. The Present stands on a prominent place on Crawford Square. Crawford Square is one of 22 squares in downtown Savannah. Designed in 1841, The Present (1850) is the oldest structure on the square.

Crawford Square is named in honor of Secretary of the Treasury William Harris Crawford who ran for President in 1824 but came in third place behind John Quincy Adams (1st) and Andrew Jackson (2nd). During the era of Jim Crow, Crawford Square was the only square in which African Americans were permitted. The Lady Chablis resided in Crawford Square prior to her rise to fame after her appearance in John Berendet’s non-fiction novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
